I have a soft spot for ugly Montparnasse. On to a free first Sunday at Versailles.
Sheep.
I especially enjoyed the Grand Trianon. Very liveable!
This painting of Darius' mother kneeling in front of Alexander is better than the one we saw in Rome.
Horace has this dance pose thing.
Chic somehow.
Our one day of sun.
Horace is a Delacroix guy. That's OK! He ran away from the Oath of the Horatii because of the name (embarrassing, I get it). Obviously a busy, busy room.
We also saw the Da Vinci exhibit. It was too crowded for Horace. I yelled a lot about the Salvator Mundi to the kids. They agree with me that it's a fake.
Ofcourse the kids have no idea why Cain would be so upset here. Thinking about strategies how on to address this.
One more day...
Cute fake controls on the Metro.
We circled back to the Trocadero to visit the Musee Clemenceau.
It was delightful and understandably of no interest to the kids, even Horace.
But to be fair we spent most of the day at the Jardin d'Acclimatation.
The rides were gorgeous and steampunk-themed, and, even though there was virtually no one else there, each ride was staffed by a friendly, bilingual ride attendant (35 hrs/week, 6 weeks vacation, full pension, etc. I'm sure. Go get 'em, President Macaron).
We dined at a few empty restaurants at the obscene kid-friendly time of 7:30 pm.
We spent our last evening in the 11e near the Place de la Republique. We hope they work out the la greve situation. We loved France even though we felt constantly judged. Grocery shopping has been pretty sad since we got back.
