Hello, East Coast. We picked a good two weeks to escape Seattle, aka Mordor.
The gem exhibit at the National Museum of Natural History is a must visit for our little maharajah.
The Apollo 11 exhibit at the Air and Space Museum probably hasn't been updated in at least thirty years.
We finally snagged tickets for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing tour. I was impressed with the friendliness of the printing staff. Lots of gaffes for the kids and a stuffie with a dollar sign necklace.
Finally, a proper DC thunderstorm. Seattle kids don't get it.
We had perfect weather at the beach, however.
Funland at Rehoboth Beach was bizarrely cheap: travel-tip alert, alert, alert... The free fall ride costs $0.90 per kid.
Maine looked like Maine. The adults visited Waterville to see Diana and Charlie. Delightful!
Believe the Shake Shack hype, Seattle Amazonia. Ugh. But yes. Somehow this tourist hot-spot next to the National Mall and idling Chinese tour buses in 90% humidity is still pleasant al fresco. I think it has to do with the width of DC sidewalks and all the neoclassical/Second Empire stuff going on.
But the best DC architecture probably is out in the 'burbs. We honk for the Eero typeface. Apollo 11 and IAD forever.
