We visited Mukai Farm and Garden on Vashon Island pre-clamming. Curatorially challenged, but edifying. Quiz Jane about Japanese internment! Not sure she was paying attention.
On to Point Robinson! We watched a seasoned amateur horse clam harvester work methodically to retrieve the wiley mollusk (he basically saw the squirt, found the siphon and then proceeded to dig straight down along the side of the clam in order to scoop it out rather than yank on the siphon). The rest of us noobs pulled a few siphons off or got squirted in the face while the clams escaped our grasp.
We saw a few HUGE ships go by which created medium-sized waves for jumping in.
The ferry ride was especially spectacular though because we had forgotten what they were like. As in truly spectacular.
