The local Costco put tubs of Vitamin D pills on prominent display a few weeks ago. I chomped on the bait. Now the NYT reports that Vitamin D pills are probably useless and possibly harmful. What is a Pacific Northwesterner to do, plagued as he is by short, gray days? Milk doesn't cut it; you'd need at least a quart a day to receive your daily recommended dose of Vitamin D. So, stop being picky, and eat fish. And take advantage of an El Nino year when you can:

As someone who takes 4000iu a day and still can't to regular levels I'll take my chances. The sun is not my friend.
